Famous Sam's had its beginning in Tucson, Arizona in 1963 and was known as "Sam's Tavern." The small neighborhood bar served overstuffed pastrami and ham sandwiches and offered entertainment with pool tables, pinball machines, and televisions long before entertainment was considered trendy. Sam's Tavern took on the identity of its blue-collar patrons with a hunger for sports and entertainment, as well as good food to fill a hearty appetite. On the local level, Sam's Tavern became extremely popular and became recognized as the convenient neighborhood "hang out."
